Energy efficiency: Time for Implementation and Facilitation!
As energy ministers of the 28 Member States of the European Union are meeting today in Brussels to discuss the 2030 climate and energy framework, Eurofuel welcomes the policy emphasis on energy efficiency, already underlined in the latest European Council conclusions on 2030. Energy efficiency is the most important element in a meaningful and effective policy in the interest of EU’s climate and energy policies. Particularly in the residential sector, achieving primary energy savings should remain the main objective of the EU’s energy policy by 2030 and beyond.
The focus should be on facilitating the implementation of the already agreed legislation. There is a huge potential for energy savings in the heating sector, simply by facilitating consumers’ upgrade of their heating systems with new equipment complying with the agreed ecodesign measures.
