Joint Heating Commission reacts to EU's Affordable Housing Plan
The Joint Heating Commission (JHC), which includes ECFD, Eurofuel, FuelsEurope, and UPEI, welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to create the European Affordable Housing Plan.
We fully support the objectives of this Plan, which aims to guarantee that all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups and middle-income households, have access to affordable, sustainable, and decent housing. This goal is closely related to providing access to clean, efficient, and cost-effective heating solutions, essential for residential comfort and energy efficiency.

Position paper on EU Clean Industrial Deal & Affordable Energy Plan
Eurofuel, the European Liquid Heating Fuels Association, welcomes the launch of the Clean Industrial Deal and the Action Plan for Affordable Energy as a path towards a sustainable and competitive energy future, setting ambitious targets for reducing emissions. While these strategies emphasise the significance of electrification and hydrogen, they may neglect a crucial aspect of a truly inclusive energy transition: low-carbon renewable liquid fuels.
Eurofuel believes that these fuels offer an immediate, cost-effective, and practical solution to decarbonisation—one that complements existing energy policies while addressing the diverse needs of European consumers and businesses. By recognising the value of renewable liquid fuels, the EU can ensure a balanced approach that delivers both environmental and economic benefits without imposing unnecessary burdens on consumers.

Position paper on EU Omnibus Simplification Package
Eurofuel, which represents the European liquid heating fuel sector, supports the European Commission’s initiative to create an Omnibus package for simplifying reporting requirements under EU legislation.
As a key stakeholder in Europe’s decarbonisation efforts, Eurofuel supports the EU’s commitment to greater transparency and accountability in corporate sustainability reporting. However, recent regulatory developments have added complexity and administrative burdens, particularly for SMEs in the liquid fuel sector.
Eurofuel calls on the Commission to ensure that simplification efforts result in a more coherent and practical regulatory framework, facilitating compliance rather than imposing additional barriers.

Call for action by the European Liquid Heating Fuels Association
Achieving climate neutrality requires a holistic strategy that considers all energy needs. While electrification and other renewable technologies play essential roles, an exclusive focus on these solutions risks leaving significant gaps, particularly for the 20 million households in Europe that rely on liquid fuels for heating.
Many buildings, especially in rural and off-grid areas, are not suitable for electrification due to cost constraints or limited grid connections. Ensuring that these communities are not left behind in the transition to a greener future is crucial.
Eurofuel, the European Liquid Heating Fuels Association, urges Europe's leaders to recognise our sector as a critical and strategic part of the energy transition and to incorporate it into the Clean Industrial Deal.Download the open letter to policy makers to learn more!

Press release - Heating with Liquid Fuels brochure
Four associations active in the liquid heating fuels industry, namely ECFD (European Confederation of Fuel Distributors), Eurofuel (European Liquid Heating Fuels Association), FuelsEurope (European Fuels Manufacturers Association) and UPEI (Europe's Independent Fuel Suppliers), publish a joint press release, urging policymakers to support renewable liquid fuels to meet the EU’s 2030, 2040, and 2050 climate targets.
With more than 20 million households in Europe relying on liquid fuels for heating, the associations forming the Joint Heating Commission, emphasise that liquid fuels remain essential for rural, off-grid communities, providing an affordable, reliable energy source.
Their latest publication explains it all: Heating with liquid fuels.
