Key Takeaways from ISH 2025: A Stronger Focus on Hybrid Solutions and Green Fuels
The 2025 edition of ISH in Frankfurt once again showcased the latest innovations in heating, energy, and climate technologies. One clear trend observed by Eurofuel members this year was the increased emphasis on hybrid heating solutions, marking a shift from the stronger focus on full electrification seen two years ago. This evolution reflects a growing recognition of the need for pragmatic, flexible, and consumer-friendly approaches to decarbonising heating in Europe.
“At Eurofuel, we welcome this trend. We firmly believe in being part of the solution by promoting technology neutrality and ensuring a secure and affordable energy supply for European consumers. The transition to low-carbon heating should not be limited to a single technology but should instead leverage a mix of solutions, including renewable liquid fuels, to best fit different markets, climates, and consumer needs”, says Federica Miano, Eurofuel Secretary General.
Hybrid Heating: A Pragmatic Path Forward
A key takeaway from ISH 2025 is that more manufacturers are now integrating liquid fuels into hybrid systems, combining renewable fuels with heat pumps, solar thermal, and other efficient technologies. This balanced approach acknowledges that while electrification plays an important role, it cannot be the sole pathway, especially given the variability of energy infrastructure across Europe.
This aligns with our vision: a technology-neutral approach that allows all energy carriers, including renewable liquid fuels, to contribute to the EU’s climate and energy goals.
Green Fuels Ready: a sign of market readiness
A particularly encouraging sign at ISH 2025 was the increasing number of exhibitors incorporating the Green Fuels Ready label into their products. This label highlights appliances that are compatible with renewable liquid fuels, ensuring that consumers can transition smoothly as fuel availability expands.
This growing recognition of renewable liquid fuels as part of the heating mix underscores the need for a technology-inclusive approach that does not exclude proven, low-carbon alternatives.
Security of Supply remains a priority
Another important discussion at ISH 2025 centered on energy security. Recent geopolitical and market fluctuations have reinforced the need for diversified energy sources to ensure stability for European households and businesses. Liquid heating fuels, especially when renewable, continue to play a crucial role in providing reliable, storable energy—an advantage that should not be overlooked in the policy debate.
Looking ahead
As policymakers shape the next phase of Europe’s energy transition, Eurofuel will continue to advocate for a fair, inclusive approach that recognises the contribution of all technologies. The shift toward hybrid solutions and the growing adoption of Green Fuels Ready appliances at ISH 2025 are positive developments, but we must continue pushing for a framework that supports innovation without excluding viable, low-carbon alternatives.
“The future of heating must be efficient, affordable, and secure—and that means embracing a broad mix of solutions, not just a one-size-fits-all approach”, says Federica Miano, Eurofuel Secretary General.
